The organism as a whole is more than the sum of its parts. Human organism consists of elements that interact with each other in such a way that even partial removal of them causes the organism to lose its character as an individual whole.
A special feature of physiology is the integrative approach. It means the study of regulation and functional adaptation of the organism. Regulation comprises functional links, feedback loops, necessary for the functioning of the organism as a whole.
Pathophysiology describes the mechanisms which lead from the primary cause via individual malfunctions to a clinical picture and its possible complications.

Study of physiological system structure and function, as well as pathophysiological alterations, has its foundations in physical and chemical laws and the molecular and cellular makeup of each tissue and organ system.
Proper knowledge of the human body’s normal structure and function, and the ways in which these can become disordered, brings the ability to understand disease and to design rational and effective treatment.
Our course – Human physiology and pathophysiology - is intended to provide students with a clear, concise, and compelling presentation of the physiological and pathological functions of the human organism.

PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of upper-intermediate English is required to understand the content of the course. Specific technical terms and acronyms are explained as necessary.

CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE

To pass the course, it is necessary to provide a minimum of 60% correct answers in the final exam (weight 20%) and a minimum of 60% of correct answers to the control questions in all lessons of the course (weight 80%). The course includes single-choice and multiple-choice questions.

CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE

To receive a certificate, you must complete the course.

COURSE STAFF

  Prof. UEHS Jaroslaw Bogaczewicz D.Sc. (habilitation) 

He has been practising the medical profession since 2004. He obtained PhD in Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Lodz in 2009. He obtained his post-doctoral degree of medical sciences (D.Sc.) in 2016. He centered his scientific interests on, among others, the study of the oxidation-reduction system, the role of matrix metalloproteinases and their tissue inhibitors, immunological phenomena and gene polymorphism.
