INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION

The aim of this course is to introduce students to psychology as a science. It contains of 30 hours in the form of e-lessons combining lectures and exercises in the form of scientific article to read. The course is presented mostly in video presentations accompanied by visual presentation to supplement the narrative. Some scientific articles are introduced with a video then are made available in pdf electronic format.


PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS

The course is intended for everyone interested in the subject of cognitive psychology. It may be the most suitable for students learning wanting to have a general overview of brain functioning and how it translates to behavior. 

Elements of theory are introduced in the course without requiring prior knowledge. The course can be attended by people who have not had any contact with psychological sciences before, but have basic knowledge of biology and human sciences. 

Knowledge of Plain English is required to understand the content of the course. Specific technical terms and acronyms are explained as necessary.  


COURSE OBJECTIVES

To familiarize students with basic information about psychology as a science. 

Presentation of its main directions - historical background, the most important representatives and main assumptions and discoveries. To familiarize students with knowledge about the relationship between the brain and the psyche and the methods of studying this relationship, the basic issues related to the reception and processing of information, the approximation of such issues as cognitive processes, both basic and higher level. To present selected issues in the field of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the central nervous system and the necessary information in the field of neurobiology and neuropsychology. To familiarize students with biological traits determining human behavior. In addition, the presentation of a way of understanding selected psychological phenomena such as: motivation, emotions, personality in the understanding of different psychological trends, as well as the transfer of basic knowledge in the field of social psychology and psychopathology. To familiarize students with the specificity of psychological thinking, which will allow them to develop their skills of formulating independent conclusions and using a psychological language.

CONDITIONS TO BE FULFILLED TO RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE

To receive the certificate, you must complete the course. To pass, you need to obtain at least 60% correct answers.

Charles-Étienne Benoit
is a doctor of psychology who graduated from the University of Leipzig in 2015.
He specializes in cognitive neuroscience, notable on the use of rhythm in mental and physical health.

He is currently recruited as an associate professor at Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University in France.
