Opis kursu

On the left, the sign of the European Funds consisting of a graphic symbol, the name of the European Funds and the name of the program: Knowledge Education Development, in the middle the sign of the colors of the Republic of Poland consisting of a graphic symbol and the name Rzeczpospolita Polska, on the right the sign of the European Union consisting of a flag EU, the inscription European Union and the name of the fund: European Social Fund.

This course was created as part of the project POWR.03.01.00-00-W010/18 "Course for self-development" co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund, Operational Program Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020, Priority Axis III. Higher education for the economy and development, Measure 3.1 Competences in higher education.


The course is intended for people interested in modern education model who want to develop competences which enable functioning in digital civilization. It covers issues related to the main directions of changes and development of society as well as tasks facing modern education. During the course, the participant will learn about the project method, the application of which will be conducive to the development of the necessary competences.

The course is intended for students of Pedagogy and those studying in the teaching specialization. It is also recommended for postgraduate students preparing for the teaching profession.

The course may also be attended by persons conducting workshops, training courses or extracurricular activities and by those interested  in improving their methodological skills.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

General objectives of the course:

During the course, each participant will be able to obtain knowledge and skills in the field of:

  • directions of education development in connection with the development of digital civilization,
  • opportunities for learners to develop competences necessary for efficient functioning in the modern world,
  • application of forms, methods and means of education conducive to the development of the expected competences.

Specific objectives:

Through participation in the course, the participant will:

  • learn about the expectations for citizens' competences, which enable efficient and successful functioning in the knowledge society, will be able to identify them,
  • define the tasks facing modern education, define the conditions necessary for the implementation of educational tasks,
  • learn about the main directions, trends and determinants of education in digital civilization (including the constructivist approach),
  • acquire the ability to design learning situations with the use of modern educational methods, favoring the development of the expected competences necessary in the knowledge society, among others, with the use of tools, methods and means of information technology,
  • actively, consciously and creatively use the acquired knowledge.

EDUCATION CONTENT

MODULE 1

Digital civilization characteristics. The influence of civilization development on the functioning of modern man. The main determinants of the development of the information society. Information society and the knowledge society. Changes in industry - Economy 4.0.

MODULE 2

Education for the future. New key competences. New challenges for modern education.

MODULE 3

Effective education in the world of digital technologies. Education in the knowledge society. Contemporary learning theories. Constructivism. Teachers' tasks in the digital world.

MODULE 4

Designing learning situations conducive to the development of key competences. Contemporary methods of education - Problem based learning. Project method. Principles of organizing educational activities. Principles of project implementation. Project worksheet.

MODULE 5

Digital skills of the teacher. Useful tools and applications.

MODULE 6

Complementary and remote education. How pandemic is changing education. Principles of organizing remote classes. Digital hygiene.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • The participant knows the most important trends in the development of the information society, identifies the terminology used in defining civilization changes, understands its sources and meaning.
  • The participant is able to identify the most important determinants of the development of the information society. Understands their impact on individual areas of human functioning, including culture and education. The participant understands and is able to justify the need to develop new key competences of the society, is able to define them.
  • The participant is able to approach education process critically, making a comparison between the traditional and modern model of education.
  • The participant knows the latest solutions in the field of forms, methods and techniques of education conducive to the development of key competences, can design education situations using the” learning by doing” methods.
  • The participant takes part in discussions on the forum. Can creatively formulate conclusions resulting from the discussion. Can modify his or her way of thinking. The participant analyzes his or her activities undertaken during the course.
  • The participant demonstrates the ability to independently expand the knowledge acquired in class. Performs an in-depth analysis of the indicated sources, searches for additional sources and justifies their selection. Can conduct a critical interpretation of the information obtained.
  • The participant is able to creatively use the forms of remote education for educational purposes
  • The participant is able to manage the time of implementation of educational tasks aimed at improving qualifications in a systematic and planned manner.
  • The participant carries out learning tasks through networking by sharing knowledge with other course participants.

ORGANIZATIONAL AND TECHNICAL ASSUMPTIONS FOR THE COURSE

  • Course duration: 8 weeks x 2 hours (16 teaching hours)
  • Implementation method: independent and moderated
  • Participant's way of working: individual work
  • Channels and methods of communication with course participants: synchronous communication (webinars), asynchronous communication (discussion forums)

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS

After each module, there is a final test (6 tests in total throughout the course) which will be formally assessed, which means that the scoring will reflect your progress in the course. It is only possible to approach the final test once. The final tests consist of 10 single-choice questions, which means that only one answer is correct.

In all final tests, 1 point will be awarded for the correct answer. The condition for passing the course is to read all the content in individual modules, supported by the completion of all tests at the end of the modules at the level of 70%.


CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING A CERTIFICATE

The condition for receiving the certificate is passing the course at the level of 70%.

Assistant professor at the Institute of Pedagogy at Humanitas University in Sosnowiec. Initiator of the teacher cooperation network of the Creative Teachers Forum and Creative Teachers Seminars. Research interests include the issues of modern education in the digital world, including social, cultural and educational implications of the development of the information society. The conducted research is closely related to the issues of shaping the information technology culture of society, motivation to learn, implementation of “learning by doing” solutions  at all stages of education in the digital reality.

Organizer of international scientific conferences devoted to the educational and social consequences of the use of information technology (Education 4.0 - Where are we going? Member of the Association of Academic e-Learning, Polish Cognitive Society, Polish Information Technology Society and Polish Society of Educational Technologies and Media. ECDL examiner, certified e-teacher of the Academic E-Learning Association, member of the working group at the Minister of Digitization for digital competences (currently Prime Minister’s Office), member of the Media Pedagogy Section at the Pedagogical Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, vice president of the Upper Silesian Branch of the Polish Information Technology Society, expert of the Sectoral Competence Council - IT.
