The course was created as part of the project "MOOC @ PB-Modern technologies in the education process" contract no. POWR.03.01.00-00-W040 / 18-00

The course is intended for students, graduates, academic entrepreneurs and people who plan to start a company in the future. The course will include practical tips, case studies and the necessary theory in the field of supporting academic entrepreneurship. The course is largely based on practical examples of supporting entrepreneurs by various institutions: universities, incubators, acceleration programs, technology transfer centers, science and technology parks, corporations. Examples of support come from recent years and are easy to understand for a budding entrepreneur or student


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For people who already have experience with academic entrepreneurship, there are no prerequisites. For other people, the entry requirements refer to their IT competences needed to operate the course and the ability to independently study new issues, especially on the basis of available e-learning courses.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

You will gain knowledge of the key aspects related to academic entrepreneurship. You will learn about institutions and programs that can help you on your way to market success. You will learn how the best ecosystems supporting academic entrepreneurship work. You will find out about your own entrepreneurial competences. You will learn to recognize which institutions and programs, at what stage of your career development can help you make your dreams come true.


SUBJECT ISSUES

Module 1. ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THEORY AND PRACTICE.

Module 1 presents general concepts related to academic entrepreneurship. The most important topics you will learn in this module are:

  • What is academic entrepreneurship and who is an academic entrepreneur.
  • What is the process of academic entrepreneurship.
  • What are the basic legal aspects related to academic entrepreneurship.

Module 2. ENTITIES BUILDING THE ECOSYSTEM SUPPORTING ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

Module 2 presents entities building an ecosystem supporting academic entrepreneurship. The most important topics in this module are:

  • The essence of the academic entrepreneurship support ecosystem.
  • Spin-offs and spin-outs.
  • Entities building the entrepreneur support ecosystem, including: incubators, accelerators, technology transfer centers, n-t parks.

Module 3. ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUPPORTING ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

Module 3 focuses on examples (case studies) of entrepreneurial universities that have built effective systems to support academic entrepreneurship, including Stanford Univeristy, MIT, University of Oxford.

Module 4. BUSINESS AND CORPORATIONS SUPPORTING ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

Module 4 presents the issue of support for academic entrepreneurs by business and corporations. The most important topics in this module are:

  • Startup entrepreneurship.
  • Corporations supporting academic entrepreneurship and startups.
  • Models of startups' cooperation with corporations.

Module 5. SOCIAL MEDIA AND OTHER TOOLS FOR PROMOTING ACADEMIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

The last module focuses on contemporary tools for the promotion of academic entrepreneurship. The following topics were addressed:

  • Promotion of academic entrepreneurship.
  • Recipients of the promotion of academic entrepreneurship.
  • Types of promotional activities.

CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF THE COURSE

The course includes 2 types of checking the participant's knowledge that are subject to assessment: Short quizzes, included in modules, which check knowledge on an ongoing basis and are intended to help consolidate knowledge. Their weight in the final assessment is 30%, Final test summarizing the entire course. Its weight in the final evaluation is 70%. The quiz consists of several questions, the Final test consists of 15 questions, the answers to which can be found in the presented lessons. The course participant may only use 2 attempts when answering each question in the test. In order to pass the course, it is necessary to achieve a threshold of over 60% of all possible points. Those who achieve a score of at least 61% of all tests will receive a course completion certificate.

COURSE STAFF

Urszula Kobylińska, PhD

The author of the course is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering Management (Białystok University of Technology). Actively and systematically develops achievements in the discipline of management and quality science. She is the author or co-author of 90 publications in the field of management published in domestic and foreign monographs or magazines. Currently, she is a member of the international team implementing the project entitled Acceleration of the business support ecosystem (ACCESS, Interrreg Lithuania-Poland, 2020-2021). Was a member or contractor in 14 research or commercial projects. Recently, she managed a research project under the Miniatura2 grant on the topic: Quality of relations in the field of supporting academic entrepreneurship in Eastern Poland (project implemented in 2018-2019). In 2017-2018, she was a member of the team implementing the international project: LT-PL cooperation platform supporting newly established business and promoting entrepreneurship, Interreg Lithuania-Polska.
