The aim of the course is to get to know and broaden the knowledge of various types of scientific information sources on the Internet, which will be useful in scientific work and study. Various resources and tools used in searching for information on the Internet will be presented. Course participants will learn about the specifics of these tools and the possibilities of using them in scientific work. It will be particularly important to show the ways of reaching these sources on the Internet and searching for them in compliance with the legal regulations in force in Poland. Course participants will also learn about the foundations of the Open Access movement and its influence on the sources of scientific information available on the Internet.
The course is intended for various categories of recipients - young, beginner researchers, students of various fields of study, PhD students, people who are active scientifically, preparing scientific publications, diploma theses, as well as for experienced scientists who want to broaden their knowledge about sources of scientific information in the Internet . The knowledge included in the course on contemporary sources of scientific information available on the Internet, as well as practical tips and exercises in the use of these sources, will help you quickly find the information you need and efficiently organize your research workshop.
The course was developed in Polish and English as part of the MOOC Course "MOOC for Education at the Faculty of Arts and Educational Sciences" project. The authors of the course are academics and teachers of the University of Silesia. Recommended duration - 8 weeks, a total of 32 hours of own work. A certificate of participation in the course is provided for people participating in the course who have completed the course at the level of 50%.

To start the course, you must have:
The aim of the first module is to familiarize the student with the basic concepts and classification of information sources. The user will also learn what specialist information is and what are the basic sources of information in the selected field of sciences, i.e. pedagogical sciences.
In the second module, the participant will learn about such issues as basic legal acts related to copyright and related rights, the concept of author and work, fair use, quotation rights, orphan hole, license and public domain, special rights of libraries, and educational institutions.
Participants of the third module will learn the functions and tasks of library catalogs, types and forms of library catalogs, and the content of library catalogs. He will also learn how to effectively search and/or discover relevant information, what is a central directory, what is the difference between a directory with a central database and a virtual directory, what is a digitized directory, from what worldwide and national directories central is worth using.
The participant of the fourth module will learn what are the assumptions of the social scientific movement Open Access, which conducts activities for openness in science. They will learn the terminology related to Open Access, as well as other issues, such as: open science, legal models of open access (free and libre), golden and green way of open access, which Open Access services in Poland are worth browsing and the most important open access registers (catalogs) resources on the Web.
In the fifth module, the user will get acquainted with the sources enabling the search for open resources, with particular emphasis on scientific and educational resources. He will get to know the databases that allow to find this type of resource and their search capabilities. Learns where to search: open scientific and educational resources, repositories of open resources, journals and articles published in Open Access, e-books published in Open Access.
The sixth module contains information on the most important bibliometric and scientific databases as well as the rules for placing, indexing and citing scientific publications on the Internet. The user will get acquainted with such bibliometric and scientific databases as Scopus, Web of Science, Erih Plus. He will get to know such scientific and professional networks as Linkedin, ResearchGate, Academia, which allow him not only to find the necessary publications, but also to publish his articles, create scientific and research networks, increase the recognition of his publications and disseminate the results of his own research.
In the seventh module, the user will learn what mass media, social media, social networks are and when they developed. He will get to know the most frequently used social networking sites, as well as their characteristic features.
From the eighth module, the user will learn what electronic publications are, with particular emphasis on electronic books and journals. He will learn the types of e-books and e-magazines and the features that affect many functionalities of this type of publication. He will also have the opportunity to expand the knowledge of the development history of the electronic publications in question. They will also learn about sources enabling access to electronic books and journals: digital libraries, e-book and e-journal packages available through libraries, electronic journal databases, Open Access sources, e-book platforms.
The aim of the ninth module is to present basic information on scientific search engines, present their search capabilities and indicate those that are worth using for searching for the scientific content. The user will learn: what is a scientific search engine (general, specialized, commercial), what types of scientific search engines can be used, what is worth paying attention to when searching for information.

The aim of the eleventh module is to acquaint the user with the basic problems of research data and to indicate the sources helpful for their creation. The user will be able to get acquainted with issues such as the collection and opening of research data obtained in the research process and used in scientific work, open access to scientific publications and open research data, understood as concepts that significantly contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
The aim of the twelfth module is to familiarize the user with the concept of "artificial intelligence", the methods and techniques used, and examples of application in intelligent educational systems. The material provided in the module should be treated as an introduction to the issues of artificial intelligence, which is used on a daily basis in information systems available on the Internet, enabling the collection and searching in Internet sources of information.
To pass the course, you must complete the final test at the level of min. 50%.
