Opis kursu

We cordially invite you to participate in the "Professional preparation of scientific publications" course. Our course will introduce you to the issues of preparing scientific publications, their structure and publication strategy. It will help you learn more about the elements of scientific publications, practise selected bibliographic styles and prepare your own publication strategy.

The course is intended for students of all levels of study, researchers, employees of libraries, scientific information centers, research institutes and anyone interested in the issue of developing scientific publications.

The course developed as part of the "MOOC course" program and the project "E-learning courses in phraseodidactics and professional preparation of scientific publications" at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia in Katowice by the best experts in the subject matter, in Polish and English, is adapted for people visually impaired and hard of hearing.

Recommended duration - 4 weeks, a total of 24 hours of own work.

As part of the course, participants will be able to perform various types of exercises, such as: short tests provided after most of the lessons with different types of questions (single / multiple choice) with an unlimited number of approaches, practical / project task, tasks for self-completion. The mentioned exercises are non-classifiable, .i.e. they will not have an impact on the final grade

A certificate of participation in the course is provided for people participating in the course. The certificate can be obtained by people who have completed the course (final test) at the minimum level of 50%.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To start the course, you must have:

  • ability to use traditional and online scientific sources,
  • readiness to undertake individual and team activities in the field of developing a publication strategy,
  • basic ability to use application programs, especially text editors,
  • basic computer and peripheral device skills,
  • basic skills of working with the Navoica educational platform.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

The aim of the course is to develop and improve the competences of creating and professional preparation of scientific publications.

In particular, our course will allow you to:
• learn more about the elements of scientific work and the principles of selecting sources,
• get acquainted with selected (most frequently used) citation styles,
• become more familiar with the rules of editing a scientific work,
• choose the right journals to publish your article,
• learn more about the sources of scientific information about scientific journals,
• become acquainted with the current rules of evaluation of scientific achievements,
• promote your achievements and scientific publications,
• increase the citation and internationalization of your publications.


SUBJECT ISSUES

MODULE 1

The aim of module 1 is to introduce you to the issues of writing scientific texts. The content of the lesson will discuss the basic terminology related to scientific work and its structure. Elements of scientific publications and selected problems of the selection of scientific literature will be presented. The course participant will also learn about selected styles of bibliographic description (citation styles). In addition, general principles of formatting and editing a research paper will be presented.

MODULE 2

In module 2, the user will learn about one of the most important channels of scientific information, which is a scientific journal. This type of scientific publication will be discussed in various aspects: evaluation and evaluation of scientific achievements, sources of information about scientific journals, promotion of research results. In addition, the stages of the preparation of a scientific article and the rules for selecting a journal for publication will be presented.

 

CREDIT CONDITIONS

To pass the course, you must complete the final test at the level of min. 50%.


CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE

In order to receive a certificate, the course participant should meet the above mentioned conditions for passing.
