AIMS OF THE COURSE
Upon completion of the course, in terms of knowledge, you will be able to:
- Describe the civil aviation market, list the major market players and indicate the direction in which the industry is developing.
- Recognize the most important aircraft manufacturers in civil aviation and indicate the differences between the products in their portfolio.
- Name the organisational structure of airlines and the tasks of each department, describe how airlines build a network of connections and optimise profits.
- Categorise airports, outline their different business models, and describe their key elements and airports' relationships with stakeholders.
- Explain how the flight control system works in Europe.
- List the most important institutions related to civil aviation, cite the basics of aviation law.
- Identify the threats to civil aviation and how the risk of their occurrence may be reduced.
- Describe the impact of civil aviation on the environment, discuss the sustainability of airports.
- Select possible directions for the development of the aviation industry.
- Distinguish the types of aircraft according to the most popular characteristics - engine type, fuselage type, range and operational purpose.
- Formulate business models for specific airlines.
- Match a business model to a specific airline.
- Illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the current air navigation system.
- Conduct a constructive assessment of the usefulness of specific air laws.
- Analyse specific measures of safety and security at airports.

MODULE 1. Air transport system
Introduction to the air transport market, key players, challenges and future projections, case study.
MODULE 2. Aircraft
Overview of major aircraft manufacturers and their products, case study.
MODULE 3. Airlines
Organisational and financial aspects of airline operations, network development and sales optimisation, case study.
MODULE 4. Airports
Organisational and technical elements of airports, capacity, categorisation, airport business models, communication with the airport business environment, case study.
MODULE 5. Flight control
Flight control organisation in Europe, radiolocation systems, navigation service providers in Europe, case study.
MODULE 6. Legal framework and key institutions operating in the aviation industry
Legal framework and key institutions operating in the aviation industry. Overview of key organisations (ICAO, IATA, EASA, ACI) and international and national aviation legislation, case study.
MODULE 7. Safety and security
Organisation of security at airports, aviation security, terrorism, threats, case study.
MODULE 8. Aviation and environment
Environmental impact of aviation, sustainability of airports, programme to combat emissions and noise, case study.
CONDITIONS FOR PASSING
There are two types of student activity that are assessed in the course. These are test questions and review questions for the presented case studies. The test questions are taken into account for the final assessment. The course participant is allowed 5 attempts to answer each question in the test. Participants who score at least 51% of the points from all the test questions will pass the course.
A passing score of 51% or greater is needed to pass the course.
You are also welcome to use the discussion forum where you can ask additional questions of the experts.
CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING THE CERTIFICATE
A certificate of completion of the e-course will be generated on the basis of the sum of the points obtained in all test questions of the course modules. Participants who score at least 51% of the points from all the test questions will receive a course completion certificate.
COURSE STAFF

Michał Nędza, MA
MSc in Computer Science and Econometrics (University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow, 2010), BA in Economics. Graduate in Business Information Management (University of Huddersfield, 2008). After studying for six months at the International Uiverstity of Applied Science in Bad Honnef, Germany, he earned a Certificate in Aviation Management, February-July 2019. He received training and earned the prestigious IATA Airline Finance certificate, 2018.
His research interests revolve around the areas of Aviation Management, Economics and Computer Science.
Employed as a Research Assistant and then, since 2013, as Coordinator for English Language Pathways and Coordinator for the Aviation Management specialty. From 2019 the Head of UITM International Affairs Office and Director of the Lifelong Learning Centre. He is responsible for the University's cooperation with partners from Southeast Asia.

Justyna Żyła, MA
A graduate of the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow (major: Aviation Management and Economics, specialization: International business and project management. She has several years of experience in managerial positions related to managing teams and managing national and international projects, in particular in the field of aviation. She is the author and co-author of several projects in the field of aviation/logistics. Academic lecturer in the field of Aviation Management and General Aviation.
